One solution is to have each apt/commercial property in a land trust; each with different & unrelated names. Then have your personal property in a land trust as well. That way there is no way for WE to know that land trust A (the one with the disputed power bill from WE) is affiliated with any other property, i.e. land trust B (which would be a second apt complex or personal residence).

Would private billing be an option? The landlord pays all power cost each month and then privately bills each residence for their power usage. Since there are individual meters already, you can simply make a photocopy of the individual power bill you receive from WE and give the copy to the residence to pay. Of course, you would have to have the added to the lease agreement.

Seems like an excellent opportunity for a class action lawsuit against WE Energies.

This has continued to be an area of pain for my rental properties. All the items above have happened to me that have cost me thousands of dollars.

There should be some regulation as to what they are able to put on someone's credit report especially when you have multiple accounts and there are so many areas that are not black and white.
